Pollarding

Prevent your trees from taking over by limiting their growth.

Pollarding is an ancient pruning technique that prevents a tree taking over a site and prolonging its life span. While possible on many tree species, this is quite a popular management technique for owners of willows in our area.

A fresh pollard can look quite alarming. We cut the tree back to suitable height and will look very naked. But just a year on, it'll look like a brand new tree. Maintaining the tree at this new lower height is often much easier than the full tree and if required, repollarding back to the old pollard point is much easier than the first pollarding.
